I have my first IRL French class tonight. If you had told me a decade ago that I'd not only enthusiastically take classes again, but that i'd also enthusiastically pay for it, I probably would have thrown up laughing. I fucking hated classroom education.

But I think mostly I just hated being micromanaged. And having no autonomy. Wanting to take a French class so that I can pack a laptop and some clothes and hop on a plane to Marseille for a couple months feels like a pretty different motivator. Maybe the older I get, the more comfortable I'm becoming being new at something. A beginner at something. Bad at something.
